James A. Barrett (Jim)
Jim's insurance career began as an Underwriter for Mutual of Omaha in 1963. After 27 years of service in nearly all aspects of medical underwriting including AVP Underwriting and Regional Manager and AVP Special Projects, a reorganization sent Jim to Overland Park, KS, where he accepted a two year stint as Executive Director for an International Service Club.
In 1996 the Long Term Care Division of Transamerica Occidental Life moved its business location from California to Kansas City, MO, and that is where Jim learned the LTC Underwriting fundamentals.
AEGON's purchase of Transamerica in 2000 brought all of its Long Term Care companies under one roof in Bedford, TX. Jim became Manager of Underwriting Policy and Standards and implemented many special projects to include automation, underwriting training, underwriting audits and early claims review.
After serving the CEO of Great American Financial Resources -- Supplemental Benefits Group as Director, Special Projects from 2005 to 2007, Jim retired from active insurance underwriting involvement.
